Another incredible explanation of an extremely complex subject - thanks so much for your work!

Well written, but overtly complicated. In medias res means starting something without an introduction.

Good point. This also works with the justice system in Kafka's Trial. Mister K is arrested... without explanation. Or in Kafka's Metamorphosis, where Mister Samsa wakes up only to be found transformed... into a cockroach. Again, no explanation. Write like this, and you will have readers stretch their brains. When I researched for this piece, there eas no TikTok. Today, on TikTok, most clips do not show a beginning nor an ending. This is In Medias Res on NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-1080 powered dystopian hell. It will destroy our psychology one day. Best! T

I understand. Tokyo has collapsed. The GDP per capita has dropped 40% and now stands at $32k. For comparison, Irland has a GDP per capita of $68k. We have tourists from Korea who say that Tokyo is way backward and cheap now, compared with Seoul life. I hope this is just temporary. Take care! T

Great piece! The action has to take place in the first few paragraphs or the first minutes of a movie, and in the first few seconds in a short. Better make that the first second! There is no time for building a story or developing a character. Only when the audience is hooked, can the storytelling begin. So, it had to be "written backward". 'Momento' is a perfect example. The technique works best for crime stories. Keep it going, Dr. P!

Thanks, Guy! Momento is a master piece. Irréversible, with Monica Belluci, also comes to mind. Which was by the way one of the most violent movies I have ever seen by far. But the telling-it-backwards was perfectly executed. All the best! T
